Getting my CDA (Child Development Associates)

Oh my goodness, I am so busy now, is amazing.
I am working full time and going to school for my CDA twice a week from 6 to 10 pm.
I just did my first week and I am dead tired.
I had homework my first class, and
for next week I have homework (an autobiography 200 to 500 words), a presentation on two safety articles, a presentation of a board about safety preschool and a test on safety! Can you believe that?
I do want to post here whatever I make, like the safety poster, because is something I can use in the classroom and maybe you can use at home or in your classrooms :)
Anyways... wish me luck.
I'll try my best to blog acordingly to what I am studing and activities that I do with my little ones,
whenever I can take a break from studing, working and taking care of my house and my family :)

January Themes

As I am trying to find out what themes to teach my 2 year olds in January, I am coming across a few ideas:

winter
snowman
mittens, and many more that will come to me little by little.

but I need to make this practical and easy for my little ones.
Most of my techings, for the school I work at, have to be through play.
So here is one idea, I can teach them winter words (vocabulary)
using a felt board, which we don't have either.
Hopefullly I can go buy a big piece of felt tomorrow to put it somewhere in my classroom,
or find a big board to glue it on. Anyways...
I can teach them winter words using this paper doll with some winter clothes that I found here.

I also found a Toddler Theme Calendar that I do plan to follow as possible.

Stepbystepp has some really nice ideas for January themes.

How about a Gingerbread theme for this month also, from Pamshouse.

HubbardCupboard has the themes specifically for age 2, which will help me a lot.

and 123child has very nice ideas and pictures for winter and January themes also.

Well, from all this resources that I found, lets see what fun activities I can do

and record in pictures with my little ones.

Home Made Baby Doll Food

If your little one got a Baby Alive Doll for Christmas
you know how expensive her food can get.
So here is a little recipe do make her food by yourself

Baking Soda Method

1 Put 3 tbsp. of baking soda in a bowl.

2 Put 2 tbsp. of water on the baking soda.

3 Add 2 tbsp. of the food coloring of your choice in the bowl with the other contents.

4 Take a spoon and mix the ingredients in your bowl very well. Feed the mixture to your Baby Alive doll with the spoon that came in her box.

This recipe came from eHow, but I found out that is not as thick as the original doll food

so I add a little bit of corn starch to thicken it. It works great!

with craft sticks is this little Christmas Tree

very simple and easy to make as you can see

you form a triangle with the craft sticks for the tree

and a piece of cardboard for the tree trunk

children can decorate the tree with pom poms

and you can add a piece of ribbon on the back

to hang it as an ornament.

Craft Stick Christmas Ornament

Here's a simple little craft that everyone will love to make and give.

You Need:

• Four Craft Sticks

• One Mini Craft Sticks

• One Large Star Wood shape or a star made out of felt

• Five Small Circle Wood shapes, buttons or felt

• One Medium Square Wood shape or felt

• Green, Red & Yellow Paint

• Red, Green & Gold Glitter

• Tacky Glue

• 6" of Cord

Paint craft sticks and mini craft stick green.
Paint star and square yellow.
Paint circle red.
Let dry.
Glue three of the craft sticks into a triangle.
Glue another craft stick down the middle of the triangle extending below the triangle.
Glue the mini craft stick across the middle of the triangle.
Glue star to the top and square to the bottom where the vertical stick hangs down below the triangle.
Glue on circles. Run a bead of glue all around the tree.
Sprinkle on some green glitter. Shake off extra.
Dab a little glue onto the star and square. Sprinkle on some gold glitter. Shake off extra.
Dab a little glue onto the circles. Sprinkle on some red glitter. Shake off extra.

Glue cord in a loop to the back for a hanger.

And that's it! a cute ornament :)

In the empty squares at the bottom

you write the numbers from 1 to 10

if your child is more advance you can do the numbers

from 10 to 100 counting by 10 :)

Getting Crafty and Organized

Lately, We have been trying to get organized here at home.

But of course that's very boring for kids.

So instead of telling my daughter that we were going to organized her headbands,

I told her that we were going to do a craft

So I took an oatmeal container and some scrapbooking paper

measure the length of the container and cut the paper to that length.

For the big oatmeal container you'll need 2 scrapbooking papers

because they don't go all the way around the container.

Then we drew the lid on the container, cut it and glue it.

By the way the glue we used for this project was a spray glue.

You don't want to get your paper wet with the liquid white glue.

That's it!

Viola!

For some reason in this 2 first pictures

the top paper looks pink but it's blue

I let my daughter (now 6 years old)

choose her own papers, her own colors.

It makes it more unique, more herself.

When we were done.

We put all her headbands there and...

no more mess :)

I know I've been absent for so long.
I have neglected my blog for quite a while
and yes! is not the first time, but...
I've been sick for the last 2 years probably;
the doctors haven't been able to find out
what is wrong with me yet,
but I have hope!
I just had an endoscopy
and a colonoscopy done thursday
the doctor took a few biopsies, but nothing
they all came back normal, at least they had
good news together with that, there is no cancer
no chron's or celiac disease.
So.... now I just have to keep on going to the GI
until we find what's wrong with me.

Anyways, thank you for the understanding
my intensions are good here
trying to help moms out there
who are interested in the best education for their child

and spend some quality time together :)

Pumpkin Carving Tips - How to Carve a Pumpkin for a Jack-o'-lantern

Your jack-o'-lantern can also be an air freshener.

• Do not eat a pumpkin that has been carved as a jack-o'-lantern.

• Choose a large pumpkin1. The larger the pumpkin, the easier it is to carve. Avoid any pumpkins with bruises or moldy stems as they will spoil much faster. Pumpkins with a lighter color tend to be softer and easier to carve.

• When cutting out the top, place the knife at a 45 degree angle so the the lid will have a place to rest when you replace it. If you cut straight down, the lid will fall through.

• When cleaning the pumpkin, save the seeds. Toasted pumpkin seeds2 make a healthy as well as tasty snack. Use a large, heavy metal serving spoon or ice cream scoop to scrape the insides. If you will be lighting the pumpkin, the back wall should be scraped as smooth as possible since this is where the light will be reflected. A 1-inch thickness of the pumpkin wall is optimum.

• For longer life, soak the cleaned pumpkin3 a couple of hours in a bleach water solution of 1 teaspoon bleach to 1 gallon of water. Dry thoroughly, then rub inside and out, including all cut edges, with vegetable oil or petroleum jelly to prevent shriveling. If the pumpkin begins to shrivel, repeat the process. The soaking time will depend upon how dried out the pumpkin has become.

• Beginners should select a simple, bold pattern. Once you master the simple patterns, you can move on to something more difficult.

• Print out or draw the pattern on a piece of paper. Use small sharp scissors or a razor knife to cut out the areas you will be carving into the pumpkin. Tape the template onto the pumpkin and use a marker to trace the carving lines. Cutting slits in the paper will help it to conform to the round surface.

• As an alternative, you can tape the outline to the pumpkin and use a nail or large pushpin to score the carving lines onto the pumpkin. Connect the dots as you carve.

• A long serrated knife or a pumpkin-carving knife with teeth will be necessary to cut through the thick flesh. Use a sawing motion and take your time cutting along the outside edge of the marker lines so there is no marker residue.

• Consider cutting off the bottom of the pumpkin, as well as the top. The pumpkin will be more stable and also easier to carve. If you plan on using a candle to light your jack'o'lantern, be sure the opening in the bottom is large enough to fit over the candle. Place the candle on a fire-proof base large enough to accomodate the pumpkin. You can then easily lift off the jack-o'-lantern to light the candle.

• If you will be lighting your jack-o'-lantern with a candle, be sure to leave the lid off to avoid any fire hazard. Use a votive candle in a glass holder or tea lights in a metal case. If you want to leave the lid on, carve a hole in the unseen back side of the pumpkin to act as a chimney. Never leave a candle-lit jack-o'-lantern unattended for any length of time.

• A small battery-operated flameless candle4 is a safer choice than traditional candles for lighting your jack-o'-lantern.

• Sprinkle the bottom side of the pumpkin5 lid with ground cinnamon6, nutmeg7, and/or cloves to let your jack-o'-lantern do double duty as an air freshener.

• Place the jack-o'-lantern in a plastic bag and refrigerate when not in use.

• Try making an uncarved jack-o'-lantern by painting designs with royal icing. You can enjoy a decorated jack-o'-lantern but still use the pumpkin when Halloween8 has come and gone.

Steps To Teaching Kids To Cook

1.Plan meal. Sit down and plan what meal you will be working on our what recipe you will be making. Read through it making sure you have all ingredients available and the recipe is not too complicated. Plan out the steps you will be using to create the recipe or meal.

2.Shopping. Shop for the ingredients needed. This is a great way for kids to learn about the whole process of cooking.

3.Prep work. Read your recipe through again if needed. Wash your hands, a very important step in teaching your kids to cook. Prep work involves anything that needs done before the actual cooking such as chopping, peeling, and preparing ingredients that the recipe calls for.

4.Preparing and cooking. Now we get down to the actual cooking and preparing of the meal. This is the step where you put all your ingredients together and create, cook or bake.

5.Clean up. Remember to clean as you go especially utensils and dishes used with raw meats and eggs. This step can be done while something is cooking in the oven and you are waiting. Clean up involves cleaning dishes, counters and floors if needed. Remember to put dirty towels and aprons in the laundry also.

Remember the importance of praising your kids work. Even if their accomplishment may look less than perfect little by little and step by step they will become master chefs if given the opportunity and it is something they enjoy.

Now you can sit back and enjoy their cooking.

We had so much fun doing this activity.

Since they always get so fustrated dressing the baby dolls

I showed them how to do it one step at the time

after that I asked the kids to take a baby blanket

and cover the babies

then give the baby the bottle to feed them,

to make the activity a little interactive

I asked each one of them what was in their bottle

some of the children said milk, juice and water.

After that we put the babies to sleep

in our arms

look at how cute they carry their babies :)

very cute!

Drop it in - Dump it out

This is a small muscle exercise for the little ones.

Fill a plastic container with small counters,

here I am using small plastic ice cubes (not frozen).

Show your two year old how to pick up the small toy with two fingers

and drop it in the container.

When the container is full,

let the child turn it over and dump it.

When he is finished, put the container and the toys

in a dishpan or tray and store them on a low shelf,

for them to do it over and over again,

as they wish :)

Animal sounds for twos

On Monday I manage to take a picture of my kids

playing with the little animals

and making their sounds

after I show them some pictures of animals

telling them the name of the animal and the sound they make.

Having the little toy animals

gave me the opportunity to point at their body parts

and showing them that most animals have four legs

and a tail, they got a kick out of that :)

After playing for a while

I took out some animals foot prints

where my little ones had to hop on top of them

and tell me what animal foot print is it

or I would tell them, then

the children made their sound and act like it

Very, very cute!

Bible Verse 1st. grade (1st week Oct)

Changes in our Curriculum

It figures, now that I was getting a hang of mixing my own ideas with The Creative Curriculum, the school changes things around.

Now we have to make our weekly lesson plans based on The Creative Curriculum Assessment book and a book called Active Learning for twos which have a whole different concept.

Since my kids are only 2 y. olds is based more on hands on materials and understanding life skills rather than academics. I have to choose one outside activity (OA) and one inside activity per day (IA).

We are still going to incorporate a Bible Curriculum so that part is great! It is up to me what we do with the kids as long as is simple and age appropriate , of course :-)

So here is an example of my lesson plan for next week: Oct 3rd to Oct 7th

Monday:

IA: Pocketbook counting (numbers)
OA: Animal Sounds (nature)

Tuesday:

IA: Drop it, dump it out (small muscles)
OA: Taking baby for a ride (dramatic play)

Wednesday:

IA: Sticker designs (art)
OA: Point to body parts song (music)

Thursday:

IA:Opposites (books and pictures)
OA: Building a road (block play)

Friday:

IA: Exercise together (large muscles)
OA: Follow directions for fun (conversation skills)

I'll be taking pictures of our daily activities and posting them at the end of the week or the weekend.
I will also give details of how the lesson is taught.

Also I'll be incorporating Bible lessons and songs through the week which also will be explained.

I used paper plates to draw on the different feelings

After that, to make sure they understand the concept we acted out the different feelings:

Another fingerpaint recipe

Here is another fingerpaint recipe I found in my files, is called:

Super Sticky finger paint ( but fun and super shiny when dry)
ingredients:

corn syrup
food coloring

Mix athe corn syrup with only a drop or two of food coloring. Mix well, and then store in air tight containers or zip lock bags. You can create a variety of colors and store for future use. This finger paint is very sticky when wet, but when it dries, it will no longer feel sticky and will look incredibly shiny :)

This is my Lesson Plan for the first week od Sept. for my 2 y. old classroom:

I am trying to incoorporate a little bit of everything:
Bible curriculum thanks to abcjesuslovesme and her 2 y. old curriculum is awesome :)
together with one Christian song and a Bible verse every week, also
a color, number, letter, nursery rhyme, shape, manners and opposites each week.

Here is my try at my own made curriculum taking in consideration that at the school I work at
I can not use patterned art or crafts, coloring pages, or worksheets.

Everything has to be related to free play and real items.
For Example: I can not use a picture of an apple unless is a picture of a real apple,
so for shapes, colors, etc, I have to show them items with the color and shape I am teaching.
That said, here is my First week:

Grandparents Day

For quite some time now

I've been wanting to make

a different kind of art with my little ones,

something different than painting and crayons

so I came up with the idea of 3D Art

For this I took a sheet of construction paper

(their choice of color)

and tape a piece of contact paper to it

(by the corners)

leaving the sticky side up

I peel the contact paper

right before I set it on the table for the kids

and in the middle of the table

I have different craft materials

for the kids to grab and place on the contact paper

Toddlers and Twos Storytime

I started a book activity on monday with these 2 books

and my little ones (at school)

do every yoga and stretch movement

as I flip the page and read it to them,

so far they have asked me to read again and again,

and I am sure they'll ask for it

As the new school year approaches I'll be blogging more often "God permitting it"

I am in charge of a 2 y. old classroom as a lead teacher now.
I've been asked to make my own lesson plans adapting them to The Creative Curriculum
together with my own Bible Curriculum; whatever I can come up with,
even if I am using the Internet for help.
So I'll be posting all my ideas weekly, together with any details about it.

Besides that I also have my 6 y. old daughter going to First Grade in a Christian School
and I'll be posting her weekly lesson plans that they send home,
together with her Bible Memory Verse.

So here is her first Bible Verse:

Five little ducks

Five little ducks is one of my kids favorites,
This will help children:

Play with their voices
animal sounds
enjoy repetition and
become aware of numbers

You can also use a glove, putting velcro on the fingers
drawing 5 ducks, color and cut them out, and laminate them
and attach the other side of the velcro on the back of them.

Five little ducks went out to play
(raise 5 fingers)
Over the hill and far away
(wave good bye to the duck)
Mama Duck called, "quack, quack, quack"
(make children say quack with you,
as you open and shut the other hand like a mama duck's bill)
One little duck came back

Teaching 2 year olds about animals

With the animal theme for 2 y. olds
I chose to go with songs like:

Baa,Baa, Black Sheep which help children be aware of numbers,
and if you add movement to it, it will help them develop fine motos skills and cooperate also.

Baa, baa black sheep

Yes sir, yes sir,
(shake head yes)
three bags full
(hold up 3 fingers)

One for the master
(hold up 1 finger)
One for my dame
(hold up 1 finger)
One for the little boy
who cries in the lane
(hold up 1 finger, wipe eyes)

Homemade Stickers

Sweet Stickers :)

What You’ll Need

Small bowls

Flavored Jell-o Powder

Boiling Water

Spoon

Paper

Scissors

Paintbrush

In a small bowl, pour 2 T boiling water over 1 T powder. Gently stir until powder is

completely dissolved. Let cool.

Have your child brush mixture onto precut pieces of paper. Let dry until gelatin sets

(about 1 hour).

Let her lick the stickers and attach them.

This is really fun and really tasty. Watch out though because it is sticky!

Squeeze Painting

Here is another recipe that I found in my files :)

Squeeze Painting

You will need:

Flour

salt

water

food coloring or liquid tempera paint (optional)

squeeze bottles or small spoons

paper

Mix equal parts of flour, salt, and water. If working on colored paper, leave the

paint white; if using white paper, add a few drops of food coloring or liquid

tempera to the paint. Pour the paint into squeeze bottles or use a small spoon to

dribble the paint onto the paper. Let dry, and admire the sparkly results.

Colored Pasta

Here is another recipe that I found and would like to try making it with my daughter :)

Colored Pasta

baggies

food coloring

alcohol

pasta

 Pour 1/4 cup alcohol into a baggie.

 Add 10 drops (more or less depending on shade you want) of food

coloring to the alcohol.

 Add 1/2 cup pasta to the alcohol.

 Seal the baggie and allow the pasta to absorb the color for about 5 - 10

minutes. Turn the bag every couple minutes to evenly coat the pasta.

 With a slotted spoon, scoop the pasta out of the baggie and allow to dry

on a brown paper bag for about 1 hour.

Rigatoni makes good beads for necklaces.

Finger Paint Recipe

Today, I've been cleaning my files, more like... sorting the mess I have lol
and I found this recipe, I thought I share with everybody :)

Finger Paint

1 envelope unflavored gelatin

2 1/2 cups cold water

1 cup cornstarch

1/2 cup soap flakes

2 drops of icing color paste (available at craft and baking supply stores).

In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over 1/2 cup of the water and mix until dissolved.

Combine the cornstarch, soap flakes, and remaining 2 cups water in a saucepan over

medium heat. Add the gelatin mixture to the saucepan, stirring until it becomes thick.

Remove the pan from the heat and strain the mixture equally into 4 containers. Cool 1 hour

and then add a different shade of icing color paste to each container. Fold in color until

thoroughly mixed. NOTE: undiluted color paste will stain hands and clothing. Store in

refrigerator when not in use.

I love my Mom by Anna Walker

We loved this book

even though it had some words that were a little hard

for my daughter to read by herself

it looks very easy to read

so she got encourage to do it on her own,

Love the illustrations and soft colors :)

This is another book that looks very easy to read

and for some reason...

I think is the puppy, that children love Biscuit

Perfect for beginner readers

Adorable, just like all the Brownie & Pearl books

Pictures are so pretty

and easy to read

Since we got this at the library as an audiobook

Jessica wanted to read it again

kids love froggy

ideal for boys and girls

My daughters love cooking!

and this is the perfect book for them

we found so many recipes that they want to try

that I'll have to go buy it

I love the way it has pictures of what they need first

and then the instructions of what to do

Third Annual Book-A-Day Challenge

Thanks to The Well-Read Child I found out about the Third Annual Book-A-Day Challenge
in which I'll be participating with my daughter reading to, and with her every night. Some of them she'll be reading by herself also, since she is about to enter First grade she is practicing her reading skills.
So far we already started, here is what we have read so far

I chose to start her summer reading

the easy way by getting a few books on CD

awesome way to warm up to reading every day :)

This books was also on CD

what girl doesn't love My little Pony

thank goodness for their books

and Jessica loves

reading rebus

Now this one was a little hard for Jessica

to read by herself, so we read it together

Loves the Spanish in it :)

My daughter love the cute and colorful illustrations in this book

and what I liked the most is the she read it all by herself :)

I love the way this books has the pictures on one side

and the words on the other page

It has the right amount of high frequency words

perfect for her age

not to mention the awesome colors that attracts little girls,

and... she read it all on her own.

This is our dream, to have a bunny

so that's one of the reasons why we chose this book :)

It was a little hard for her to read it on her own

but she tried really hard because of the bunny :)

and of course We love, love, love the illustrations!

Let me tell you this are some great selections for her age (6 y.old). Some books where chosen from our local library Kindergarten book list and some others are from her school Summer Reading List.

Massaging a Baby

Mi Niece came to visit us today with her new baby,

cute isn't he?

and one of my questions was

do you massage him?

her answer...

where?

o.k. some things might come natural to some of us

but not to everybody, as we can see :)

Then obviously I showed her a quick version of a baby massage.

So this put me on a quick mission

to find more resources on this matter

and here I am sharing what I have found so far...

Baby Massage

Preparation Choose a moment in which you and your child are relaxed and calm. A half hour after the baby has eaten is recommended. Be sure that the room temperature is warm (78 degrees Fahrenheit). Undress the baby completely, if the weather is cold or humid cover the areas of the baby's body that are not being massaged. Put the baby on a soft surface so your baby will feel comfortable and secure. Keep some little pillows handy. It is a good idea to put some cream on your hands and rub them together so they will be soft and warm. Basically the massage flows from the head to the toes. With soft and gentle touches you will work on the head, face, shoulders, arms, chest, stomach and legs. While you massage your baby look tenderly at him/her. Doing this you stimulate all the senses of the baby and establish a more intense visual and tactile communication. Feel free to speak to your baby, do not inhibit yourself. Remember that your touches should be tender do not make mechanic motions. Try to be flexible by not keeping a rigid routine. If the baby wants to change position let them do so. Do not force your baby to keep a position, you can go back to these areas later on.
Technique Pressure to use: Close your eyes and press your eyelids. The pressure you should use is the same as pressing your eyelids without any discomfort. In the small areas use your fingertips. In bigger areas use the palm of your hand. "Little strokes" mean to touch your baby's skin gently and "massage" is to softly move the muscles under the skin.
Step by Step Description
The head: Touch the forehead, temples and the base of the cranium Eyebrows and eyelids Nose Cheeks The area around the mouth Ears and surrounding area
Jaws: The frontal part of the neck (Remember doing this very gently) Make small strokes and massage the posterior part of the neck with slow movements down to the shoulders. Softly put both hands on his/her shoulders. Caress the baby from the neck to the shoulders in the direction of his chest.
Shoulders and arms:Form a ring with your fingers and thumb around your child's arm. Begin to caress around the armpit and then go down along the arm. Be very careful when you arrive at the elbow, it is a very sensitive region. In the wrist you can gently practice turning motions using. Remember to take great care with all these motions.
Stomach: Massage the stomach in a circular way (the genitalia area is excluded from the massage). Caress the abdomen moving your hands clockwise beginning below the ribs.
Legs: Caress each leg with your whole hand, press gently on the thighs. Slightly flex the legs and knees pressing the thighs gently against the body.
Heels and feet: A foot massage is very relaxing. Begin by putting a soft pressure on each toe, then the foot and return to the toes again. Sometimes a foot massage can help reduce stomach pain. Caress gently all the toes. Apply circular movements at the heels.
Back: Turn your baby around. Begin with large and slow movements that include head, neck, back and legs always in one direction. Give your baby soft strokes on the shoulders and back and massaging with your fingertips with circular movements. Do not massage the spinal cord, only put your hands over it and let the baby feel the warm sensation. You can even make small circular movements on your baby's back. Put your hands at the top of the legs and begin gently caressing while working your way down towards the foot.
When you arrive to the feet start again from the top. With soft and slow movements finish the massage starting once again at the head and back to the toes.
REMEMBER: Repeat these exercises when you want to have a few special moments with your baby. Do them when you have adequate time for you and your child. Do not feel impatient if the baby does not cooperate...simply try again later. Finally: There are many ways to express your love, this is ONLY ONE of them...

Summer Reading Program and Resources

As we are getting ready for our local Summer Reading Program with my daughter Jessica, who now finished Kindergarten, I've been looking for books that she can read by herself, so she can participate proudly at our Public Library Summer Reading Program.

Looking for a list of books that are at her level, I found this websites that might help somebody out there :)

Leveled Book Lists this is a nice list of books divided into grade levels which I am planning to use first the kindergarten level and hopefully we'll get to the first grade level list too.

It also has a list of the books in alphabetical order by title and author.

I also found at Hubbards Cupboard an article about Guided Reading in Kindergarten which is a very helpful resource, worth reading every link this website has on it.

And last but not least, Scholastic has a Book Wizard where you can choose a book by doing a search depending on your child's grade, reading level, language, book type, topic or subject and Genre or Theme you want.

Well, I hope this helps somebody out there.

Picnic Packing

Today we packed por a picnic
We took a picnic basket and fill it up with a few make believe items
naming them as we put them in
utensils, different kids of toy foods, like breads to make sandwiches
pastic soda bottles, empty juice containers,
paper plates, napkins, and a blanket.

Then we went to a corner of the classroom
and put the blanket down and encourage some dramatic play
asking them to name the food that they had and helping them
serve their food in their plates.

I hope this idea helps anybody out there :)

Learning new words with books

Today we sat down in circle time and read

"happy baby words"

is amazing to see how eager

to learn are 2 year olds

This book gives you the chance to do

a story stretcher,

where you read the word/s

point at the picture

and point at the real thing,

like parts of the face

or clothes that we wear,

At the same time in a playful manner
let the children

repeat what you are saying

that way they learn the new word,

and don't forget always celebrate

their new achievement :)

Teaching Twos

O.k. as everybody knows, no secret... I suck at writing.
But I am still here wanting to share everything I do with my little ones :)
Starting this week I am not teaching fours and fives,
but instead I have taken a job with two year olds,
which is going to be different as a lot of you know.

I'll still be sharing projects that I do with my daughter
now going to first grade, as well as the ones that she brings from school
(when school starts again)

Meanwhile I'll be sharing everything I do with my little two year olds
as I am getting organized and getting ready for my new adventure.
Right now I am reading a lot about this age group, so if you have
a blog concerning this age group I would love to see it.

I'll be sharing as I put together some prop boxes,
songs, rhyming cards, and everything in between.

It happened to me today... at Church

I just have to share...

today we went to Church in the morning

and my two daughters,

my 16 y. old and my 6 y. old

who didn't want to go to the kids church (for some reason?)

so I took her in with me.

Since today is Palm Sunday

they pass the bread and the wine,

so we all took one,

then Jessica, my younger daughter says...

Mom... that was a little snack!... I am still hungry...

Oh my! I couldn't stop laughing.

I thought it was cute enough to share with everybody :)

For letter Qq this year we made something a little different

we took scrap pieces of fabric

each child chose the piece they liked

put their name on it with a permanent marker

and put it together

showing them the process of making a real quilt

we call it the "Quiet Quilt"

Putting their names on the little squares makes them feel part of the classroom

which gives them the feeling of being home too :)

After that we gave each child their own Queen Quilt paper to design themselves

I am running a little behind posting our alphabet activities at school

For letter P, we used this worksheet to practice our P sound

We also used this one to practice our P writing

and make them aware that everyday things start with P

But the one that we enjoyed the most was

Our Pink Pig with Purple Polka dots

we used this little Piggy

and painted pink, then when it was dry we glued some purple polka dots
made out of hole puncher and purple construction paper, very fun!

Now some of the kids got creative and made the same thing with our
Puppy

Mission of the Month: April 2011

This month I've decided to join Mama Jennin Mama's Mission of the Month

I might be crazy to do this since I haven't been able to post anything in my blog for a while,

but I am going to give it a try, maybe is the push or the presure lol I need to do the things I like, enjoy and want and never get to do because of the everyday life, you know working full time, taking care of the kids, getting ready for school, and the list can go on and on.

But this time I do have a list I would like to get done this month

So my Mission of the Month (April) is:

Read the Bible everyday (for at least 10 min. a day)

Finish the scrapbook album that I started

Start a Quilt (just using fabric scraps that I have, nothing professional at all)

and post at least once a week in my blog (here) :)

So here we go, pressure is on now,

better get to work :)

Here I found some Matching Feet Activity

which besides coloring the feet with a matching color

they can cut and glue them on a piece of paper

with a title "right foot - left foot"

I also found a pattern paper

for The Foot Book

Besides this two activities you can have

your child put their feet on butcher paper,

trace them, and write on them right foot, left foot

a good way for them to start getting used to

which one is their right and left side :)

Eating the alphabet

I love this book

after reading this book tonight, it came to me

that we should do the same,

I'll start an art journal with my daughter

where she can write the name of the food we eat

and what letters they start with

and this is another book that we read tonight

as much as we love froggy's books

I am dissapointed of his bad manners

but I use take the opportunity to show my daughter

how ugly it sounds when we scream

and answer w-h-a-t

I'll be working on our art journal asap

Award winning author Harriet Ziefert has a new early reader series illustrated by Japanese award winning artist, Yukiko Kido.

Stylized graphics and simple rhyming words:this 7 book series works very nicely for many early level one readers.

Each book works on different blended sounds for instance, cr/sn/br/cl/op connections are made with long and short vowel sounds.

The illustrations are similar to Anime cartooning which many children find very attractive.

I am a little behind posting this :)

We did C is for Clown a few weeks ago

But another book I also like for the letter C is

The clown in the Gown drives the Car with the Star:

a book about diphthongs and r-controlled vowel

After reading the book

children made their own clowns

with construction paper for the face

and foam shapes for the features

to add a little math to it

they count how many of each shape they used

F for fall: Leaf Trouble

My Prek classroom is starting lettter F

one of the books we are reading is

I love this book, it explains the change of seasons

and what happens in autumn

After reviewing fall colors

the kids made their own fall trees

painting their arm and hand with brown fingerpaints as the tree trunk

and pinching fall colors tissue paper for the leaves

as you can see some decided to make their own version

Pinching the tissue paper works on their fine motor skills

helping them with finger strengthening.

The book is printed is such a quality paper, is amazing, very sturdy pages, very strong! I love it!

Make It, is a book of recycled projects for children 5 to 8 years old, but let me tell you, even I am having lots of fun with it :)

The projects are easy, but very unique at the same time. But one of the things I like the most is that every project is illustrated with large colorful photos.

I love how this books includes how to make things with paper, plastic, metal and fabrics. It has lots of things that a creative child (and mom) would want to try, from collage picture frames to shadow boxes.

I just LOVE IT!!!

What is an Insect?

Since we have been going outside more often

now that the weather is cooler here in South Florida

we keep on finding insects, so...

Here is a cute activity for this book

A few materials and little imagination

you can encourage your child to make their own insect

An insect has:

3 body parts

6 legs

2 set of wings, etc.

with egg carton and pipe cleaners

which I'll try making that with my daughter

Halloween resources and crafts

Hello everybody, long time since I posted :)
Work, home and my kids school and sports schedule are keeping me really busy
but I decided to post some Halloween Resouces and crafts
even though we don't decorate the house for halloween
mostly because here in South Florida is not such a big deal
holidays are kind of dead really :(
Also is really sad that there are not many neighborhoods where you can go
trick or treating with your child, so we go to the mall.
But I have so many links and resources that I thought I would share :)

I also added a Disney Pumpkin Memory game, all you have to do is print it twice to play the game.

And this I like Halloween Book for our little ones to color and practice their reading skills with you.

Recycled Church

Yes, your little ones will follow their older siblings steps...

My older daughter has a project for school

making a Church with any materials
so she decided to use recycled items.

When Jessica saw her older sister working on it,

She insisted on making her own church

so I grabbed some recycled materials

like an egg carton, tissue paper squares and

tissue paper strips

Popsicle sticks, a big construction paper

and of course glue :)

and started making her own Church

she put it together all by herself

want to see the results?...

Just in case you are wondering

the top part are the seats of the Church

then comes the cross and

She even made the people reading the Bible

and the white pieces on the bottom are the stairs :)

isn't that amazing!

I think is so cute :)

Over the summer we participated in education.com 2010 Summer Activities Challenge.

We had so much fun together, not just playing but learning at the same time

education.com gives you a series of activities to do with your child through an e-mail reminder

after you sign up for their free newsletter, you choose if you want to do it by topic, or grade level, etc.

Their website is just awesome! I love it! is one of my best resources :)

After participating in the challenge they sent me an e-mail letting me know

that we were one of the selected winners of a

Schylling Rocket Ballons

I tried taking a picture of the balloon flying like a rocket

but it was impossible, they go way to fast for my camera :)

Bible Verse

I've been wanting to do this for a while, but everytime I sit down at the computer to check my mail I get too distracted and I just don't do it, so today I am taking a different approach...
I am writing my posts first
then I read the post of the people I follow
and then my mail
(unless I am waiting for an important mail, that is) :)

I've been wanting to share with you the bible verses that my kindergartener is learning at school, together with the story that they are reviewing, but with a little twist, I want to include either a coloring page or a craft based on the story and/or verse

Here is the first one she learned:

"All have sinned and come short of the glory of God"
Romans 3:23

And here is a Girl or Boy coloring page for the Bible Verse.

Disney Princess crafts

With school starting for my girls and work starting for me

We are trying to get back to our routine

of doing a literature based activity

To encourage a love of reading

I let her choose the book and then together

we choose the activity

In this case she chose her favorite book,

I took advantage of the Princess theme

to show her how to make

Window Stickers

with this toy that I found at the thrift store

and here is what she made

all by herself :)

They are so pretty :)

Labor Day books and activities

After reading this book

we practiced some critical thinking through a game

In advance, I collected some items that represent different jobs and put them in a bin,

then she chose an item from the bin and identify it,

after that she will name a worker who would use that item. And,

How about making a worker collage. Also,

Sand Art

We finally got to it:

Sand Art

Here is how we did it:

First draw a simple outline

or one of my favorites is using a page from a coloring book

Spread the glue on one part of the drawing only

in this case on the star

Pour the sand over the glue

but since we didn't want to be so messy

we pinched the sand onto the glue

When is all covered

shake off the extra sand

Now draw a line of white glue

and Sprinkle on the colored sand

shake off the extra sand again

And there you have it!
