Here is a very easy recipe for clay that is safe for kids
2 cups baking soda
1 cup Argo Corn Starch
1 1/4 cups water
Mix cornstarch and baking soda, add water and mix.
Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, until is thick like mashed potatoes.
There you have it clay ready to form into desired shapes.
Let it dry for 36 hours.
Paint and you can also coat it with shellac or clear nail polish.
Please use your judgment of what parts kids can make depending on the age of the children :)
Please let me know what are you working on in the coming weeks :)

Another fingerpaint recipe
Here is another fingerpaint recipe I found in my files, is called:
Super Sticky finger paint ( but fun and super shiny when dry)
ingredients:
corn syrup
food coloring
Mix athe corn syrup with only a drop or two of food coloring. Mix well, and then store in air tight containers or zip lock bags. You can create a variety of colors and store for future use. This finger paint is very sticky when wet, but when it dries, it will no longer feel sticky and will look incredibly shiny :)
Thanks for reading my blog :)

Let her lick the stickers and attach them.

Squeeze Painting
Here is another recipe that I found in my files :)
Squeeze Painting
You will need:
Flour
salt
water
food coloring or liquid tempera paint (optional)
squeeze bottles or small spoons
paper
Mix equal parts of flour, salt, and water. If working on colored paper, leave the
paint white; if using white paper, add a few drops of food coloring or liquid
tempera to the paint. Pour the paint into squeeze bottles or use a small spoon to
dribble the paint onto the paper. Let dry, and admire the sparkly results.
Enjoy!

Colored Pasta
Here is another recipe that I found and would like to try making it with my daughter :)
Colored Pasta
baggies
food coloring
alcohol
pasta
Pour 1/4 cup alcohol into a baggie.
Add 10 drops (more or less depending on shade you want) of food
coloring to the alcohol.
Add 1/2 cup pasta to the alcohol.
Seal the baggie and allow the pasta to absorb the color for about 5 - 10
minutes. Turn the bag every couple minutes to evenly coat the pasta.
With a slotted spoon, scoop the pasta out of the baggie and allow to dry
on a brown paper bag for about 1 hour.
Rigatoni makes good beads for necklaces.
Enjoy!

Finger Paint Recipe
Today, I've been cleaning my files, more like... sorting the mess I have lol
and I found this recipe, I thought I share with everybody :)
Finger Paint
1 envelope unflavored gelatin
2 1/2 cups cold water
1 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup soap flakes
2 drops of icing color paste (available at craft and baking supply stores).
In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over 1/2 cup of the water and mix until dissolved.
Combine the cornstarch, soap flakes, and remaining 2 cups water in a saucepan over
medium heat. Add the gelatin mixture to the saucepan, stirring until it becomes thick.
Remove the pan from the heat and strain the mixture equally into 4 containers. Cool 1 hour
and then add a different shade of icing color paste to each container. Fold in color until
thoroughly mixed. NOTE: undiluted color paste will stain hands and clothing. Store in
refrigerator when not in use.
Enjoy!

1 1/2 Tablespoon sugar

Put the cornstarch, salt, sugar, and water into a pot.
Cook over low heat for about 10 minutes, stirring constantly.
The mixture will start thin, but eventually thicken.
The mixture will start thin, but eventually thicken.
When it does, take the pot off of the stove and let the mixture cool off.
Once it's cool, divide it into small containers
Once it's cool, divide it into small containers
(small jars or leftover yogurt containers work well)
and add a few drops of food coloring to each.
Doesn't this sounds easy to do? and very affordable too :)

Dying Easter Eggs--the Natural way!

Here is an article I found,
Dying Easter Eggs--the Natural way!
This Easter, why not color your eggs using nature's very own dyes?
It's possible to come up with a great number of colors
using natural ingredients that can easily be found in almost any kitchen.
Pale Red: Fresh beets or cranberries, frozen raspberries
Orange: Yellow onion skins
Light yellow: Orange or lemon peels, carrot tops, celery seed or ground cumin
Yellow: Ground turmeric
Pale green: Spinach leaves
Green-gold: Yellow Delicious apple peels
Blue: Canned blueberries or red cabbage leaves
Beige to brown: Strong brewed coffee
To dye the perfect Easter eggs the natural way, here's what to do:
1. Place eggs in a single layer in a pan. Cover eggs with water
2. Add a teaspoon of vinegar.
3. Add the natural dye material for the color you want your eggs to be. (The more eggs you dye at once the more dye material you will need to use.)
4. Bring water to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
5. Remove the dye material. Remove eggs and put them in a bowl.
If you want your eggs to be a darker shade, cover them with the dyed water and let them stand overnight in the refrigerator.
